It is my pleasure and privilege to present before you the annual report of the year 2019-2020 in nutshell.
Schola–Brevis: The new academic year started on June 6 with the celebrations of Pravesanolsav which was named ‘Schola-Brevis 2019. Along with the celebrations, a brief lecture was presented, to both the parents and the students, about the goals and methods of the new academic year.
Environmental Day Observance: In order to inculcate the urgency of protecting the environment, several activities were held on 24th June, culminating with students’ skill development on safeguarding the environment in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture, Chemboor. Fr. Justin, the principal delivered a lecture on the essential aspects of up-keeping the nature and safeguarding the habitable planet. The event ended with the distribution of fresh saplings to the students.
Yoga Day: In order to conscientize the students about the efficacy of the Indian Traditional Art of Living, Yoga Day on 21st June was observed. Students were given both theoretical and practical aspects of Yoga, culminating with the Yoga-dance performed by the school Yoga team members. The whole event was guided by Fr. Isaac Mavaravilagam.
Reading Week Observance: In order to instruct the students, the significance of reading, Reading Week was observed from 8 to 12th July. The students were exposed to library more intensively and prompted to take-up books on regular basis. Students were encouraged to write summary and the best two in all the classes were awarded with prizes.
Investiture: Investiture Ceremony was held on 25th July to grant special titles and powers to the new team of class monitors. Mr. Saji, Inspector of police, Aryamcode Police Station gave the key-note address and administered the titles.
General Body Meeting: The school general body meeting was convened on 24th Saturday. It was made convenient for the parents to share their views of educating their children. Moreover, the new executive members were elected for the new academic year 2019 – 2020. Mr. Shibu Wilson -the PTA president, Mr.Rajan, Mrs. Seema, Mrs. Aysha Panikkar, Mrs. Saritha, Mr. Biju John, Mr. Sunil Kumar, and Mrs. Lissy were elected as the executive members.
Kids Fest: Kids Fest was held on 26th July. The winners and runners were given opportunity to participate in Kollam Sahodaya Kids’ Fest which was hoisted by Infant Jesus Central School, Pongumoodu. St.Josephs Team secured first place in action song among the 12 schools of Kollam Sahodaya Cluster 1. Moreover, many of the students returned with prizes for individual items.
English Lingua Fiesta: On August 3, Kollam Sahodaya conducted English Lingua Fiesta at Karikkam International School, Kottarakara. St. Josephs Students participated with elation and bagged up with prizes for various events and added credit to the school with 58 points being first among the 26 schools up to class X category.
Independence Day: Independence day was celebrated on August 15 with a true patriotic spirit. A good number of students made the event memorable and colourful.
Sanjosean Fest: Sanjosean Fest, i.e., Art’s competitions were held on 22nd August dividing the classes into three categories. Essay and short story writing, poem composing, drawing etc. were included in the variety of items.
Mastering English: Mastering the English language is one of the special features in St.Joseph’s. Various activities like choral reading, choral pronouncing, phonics, voice culture practices are given to the students to secure fluency in English. To enhance the public speaking skill in English students are frequently given opportunity to record their own videos. Videos of the famous speakers also are shared among the students to motivate them to secure the skill of public speaking in English.
Integrated Subject Skill Development: No subject in the higher level can remain alone. Every subject is interrelated. Such attitude to the subjects is the originality of teaching in St. Joseph’s. Such a way of integrated learning and understanding is given to the students through the method called Integrated Subject Skill Development (ISSD), especially to classes 7 – 9.
Choral Reading and Choral Pronouncing:
In order to make English learning joyful choral reading, and choral pronouncing are conducted time to time. The students joyfully participate and the school evaluate their steady growth in the language.
Fit India Day: August 29 was observed as Fit India Day as per the directions given by the CBSE board. The very spirit of the Fit India concept is being implemented in and through various events like sports, yoga, mass drill etc.
Teachers’ Day: Teachers’ Day was celebrated on September 5 in memory of Dr.S.Rathakrishnan. Students of St.Joseph’s made the day memorable one. Teachers were revered with various programs which evoked guru-sishya rhythm of relationship, respect and obedience.
Onam Celebrations: With full spirit of Kerala culture the school celebrated Onam on 7th Septemper. The students were astounded with the presence of Mahabali and Vamana depictions. The day was further marked with traditional folklores like Onappattu, Thiruvatirakali, and the traditional art of athappokkkalam, and so on.
Padam Onnu Padathekku: On 26th September, joining hand in hand with the scheme of Kerala Government, the students had sown bare-land paddy seeds named ‘Padam Onnu Padathekku’. They constantly monitored the growth of the saplings until the harvest was done in the month of January. On day of harvest Perumkadavila Block member Mrs. Jois and the representatives from Agricultuaral department delivered messages. They also gave necessary directions for further procedures.
Vigilance Awareness Observance: As part of the observance of Vigilance awareness week, on October 29th, the students could watch video program and discussed about the importance of vigilance awareness individually and collectively.
Kerala Piravi: On November 1, Kerala Piravi was celebrated in an expressive and meaningful manner. Classroom based entertainments and activities were conducted to make the day memorable and joyful.
Children’s Day: On November 14, Children’s Day was celebrated fabulously. The students acted as chief ministers and mimicked other important ministers of the current Indian government. To make it a more effective and perfect extended platform was provided to the students.
Friendly Football Match: In order to mark the world football day, on December 10, selected students were divided into two teams and a friendly match was conducted. The whole school watched the match with the feeling of the adrenaline flowing.
Event Horizon Exhibition: On 13th December, to reveal the talents of the young scientists, Event Horizon Exhibition was conducted with a true science spirit. Beautiful descriptions were given to the students about Black Hole one of the celestial bodies and its properties. Moreover, students exhibited their own findings, collections, working models, still models, novelties of Information Technology, art works with linguistic talents.
Events in Nutshell: On 16th December KG PTA was conducted, On 21st December, Christmas was celebrated, January 6 to 15th Jnuary Periodic test for classes 1 – IX and model exam for class X were conducted.
Gratitude: Expressing a big gratitude to the Almighty God for His protection, to St. Joseph, for his ceaseless intercession, to His excellency Most Rev Dr Thomas Mar Eusebius for his strong and sincere governance, to Fr. Isaac Mavaravilagam for his financial assistance, to Rev Fr Justin C for being a good pedagogical leader, to Fr. Aby for being the all-rounder, Mr. Shibu Wilson for his constant support, to all the teaching staff and supporting staff for their tireless service, to all the beloved parents for sending their beloved children to St. Joseph’s and all our beloved students who feel St Joseph’s campus a home away from their home.
